I’m so proud to show you a new gift created in collaboration with Riccardo Pagliani (who also designed Taste Bologna brand new logo). It’s a map of Bologna, but a different one. Find out why and how to get it.

Why another map of Bologna?
There are a lot of maps of Bologna you can find in hotels, restaurants etc. so why I decided to make another one?

First of all this map is different. You won’t find all the streets of Bologna (there’s Google Map for that) but just the most important and the ones that have something I’d like to recommend. My idea was to create a map that could be both helpful to enjoy Bologna and know exactly what to do and see, but also a nice souvenir to look at it and bring home to your friends.

​So Riccardo decided to redesign all the most famous monuments, churches, and icons of Bologna with his unique style. Such a great work of art!

How it is
In the map you find 5 colours indicating:

- What to see: my landmarks of Bologna, the must-seen places to visit in a week-end
- Bologna’s gates: all the gates that fenced Bologna in middle age, to know where you are
- How to move: train and bus station
- Green area: parks and green areas to relax in the summer
- Streets of food: these areas have food markets, restaurants, shops or pubs with unique food and are described in the internal page of the map

It’s a 100% not commercial map: none paid to be on it and they are just my real suggestions to spend a great time in the city I love.

How to have it
You have a few options:

- Join one of of our Bologna food tour, Modena Food Tour or Cooking Class and your guide/chef will give you the map

- Subscribe now to our newsletter (link at the bottom of the page) and get the digital version of the map. I will send the map in May 2017′s newsletter

- Walk around Bologna and look for the sticker “Recommended by Taste Bologna”. Those places will have a few copies of the map

After 4 years Taste Bologna is changing his look. The brand new logo, designed by my friend Riccardo Pagliani, is the first big step but there will be a lot more in the near future. I hope you can love as I do, if so let’s discover how it was created.

I had been looking for a proper logo for a long, long time. When I created Taste Bologna in June 2013 I self designed a kind of brand, but my expertise in food is not the same as in design.
Then I started to look for a logo that could translate Taste Bologna’s idea into an image. The first attempts weren’t successful but, during a sunny weekend in Tuscany countryside, I met Riccardo and everything started to be in the right place. 

Riccardo started from the typical symbols of Bologna: the two towers. Hundreds of brands in Bologna have the two towers in their logo, so it seemed hard to be original. Then the idea to transform the towers into a fork and a knife.
The final logo is something familiar but new at the same time, young but classic, and perfect to communicate the concept of Taste Bologna: help people to discover the best food of Bologna with locals, like locals.

Red and blue are the traditional colors of Bologna (also in the town logo) and we decided to use them with soft brightness to communicate the ancient soul of Bologna with a chromatic impact.

​Riccardo used Raleway, an open source Google font, perfect for web applications, with large spaces between letters.

Font’s thickness was used as a unit measure for creating perfect proportions between all the other elements.
​We put the plate on the left according to Galateo (good manners say that fork and knife must be at the right of the plate) and to balance the full design.

The new logo is just the first step of a long stair. If Riccardo doesn’t decide to kill me for all the changes and work I ask him (I am in danger, I know) you will see a new Taste Bologna in the next months.

It took a while but it’s here. After 3 years of tasting in Bologna, it’s time to look forward to a new adventure. 
“The food of Modena” is a brand new food tour in Modena born with with the passion and love of all the people around Taste Bologna which I can only thank for being that special. Let’s see what’s inside this new food tour.

For those of you who had our of our food tours in Bologna, you probably remember me talking about the huge fight between Bologna and Modena, not only figurative but real wars that happened during middle age (the very famous “War of the Bucket”). Those cities had been enemies for centuries and, even if their food traditions have the same roots, they have been accomplished in different ways. So except for tortellini (which if you ask a bolognese they were born in Bologna, if you ask a modenese they are from Modena of course), in Modena you can find a completely different range of amazing foods typical of this city that you can’t find in Bologna. 

“The Food of Modena” tour is a nice stroll in the city centre to find where the best food of Modena is hidden. One must-stop is at Mercato Albinelli, one of the most beautiful food markets I’ve ever visit, where usually Massimo Bottura of Osteria Francescana goes shopping: if you’re lucky you can meet the best chef in the world buying fresh mushrooms between the stalls. With 5 tasting pit-stops in small and historical shops you discover not only great food but people and their stories.

It can’t be a real Modena food tour without Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale and Parmigiano Reggiano. For both of them you have a tasting of multiple agings and qualities so you can taste how time and passion can change the flavours. What else? I don’t want to spoiler too much but in Modena locals have a really unique and rich breakfast that you can’t miss and if you haven’t heard about tigelle you will have a new food addiction after the tour. 

I can only say that it took more than a year to create this tour. You know how much I love Bologna and at the beginning I was sceptic about touring in Modena, because I wanted to create a new tour only if I could grant the same quality I can offer in Bologna. After a lot of research and, most of all, the help of friends a local foodies I’m 100% sure that if you loved our Bologna Food tours, “The Food of Modena” will surprise you.
