As we welcomed 2023, this event was an invitation to connect across divisions, timezones, and geographies across 90+ countries: 

• Intentional: We scheduled a date one month in advance so that people could create space to join at times that were convenient to them and their team.
• Random: We invited any and all wonderful ideas to the agenda. We believe that great ideas can come from anywhere and anyone.
• Connections: Communication is the oxygen of a distributed company and our intention was to create space for connections to form.

The Invitation: Open-Sourcing the Agenda

Rather than deciding the agenda up front, we entrusted the agenda to the whole company. We invited people to contribute what they’d like and then join any sessions that interested them. (This structure is built on the values of Open Space by Harrison Owen.)

Hosting a session was simple — all one had to do was choose a topic and add it directly to a shared Google Calendar which we created for the day. All that was left from there was to arrive on the day at their selected time to host their session with the folks who chose to join.

While many companies report difficulty getting engagement in online company events, the survey feedback from this event showed that:

• 100% of participants would recommend future events like this
• 95% of participants met with someone they’d never met before
• 100% of people who hosted would host a session again

For a 2,000-person company, these are pretty staggering results. The value of distributed ownership and co-creation speaks for itself!

What followed was energy, diversity, and abundant creativity!

The Purpose: Intentional Random Connections

As we welcomed 2023, this event was an invitation to connect across divisions, timezones, and geographies across 90+ countries: 

• Intentional: We scheduled a date one month in advance so that people could create space to join at times that were convenient to them and their team.
• Random: We invited any and all wonderful ideas to the agenda. We believe that great ideas can come from anywhere and anyone.
• Connections: Communication is the oxygen of a distributed company and our intention was to create space for connections to form.

The Invitation: Open-Sourcing the Agenda

Rather than deciding the agenda up front, we entrusted the agenda to the whole company. We invited people to contribute what they’d like and then join any sessions that interested them. (This structure is built on the values of Open Space by Harrison Owen.)

Hosting a session was simple — all one had to do was choose a topic and add it directly to a shared Google Calendar which we created for the day. All that was left from there was to arrive on the day at their selected time to host their session with the folks who chose to join. 

Movement among sessions was welcome and everything was optional. 

The Outcomes: Abundant Creativity!

In total we had 38 sessions hosted over 24 hours (both synchronous and asynchronous). The creativity, energy, and diversity that was created far exceeded what any one person could have planned on their own.

I Lego, uniscono generazioni di grandi e piccini: quando ero piccola e mia nonna mi comprava Topolino, oltre a guardare subito le pagine bordate di rosa che significavano Barbie e il suo mondo, mi piacevano le pubblicità della Lego, tanto che uno dei miei sogni resta quello di andare a vedere Legoland un giorno, e guardare dal vivo quei palazzi a mattoni d’inizio secolo che tanto mi hanno fatto sognare da bambina.

Se anche voi siete appassionati dei mattoncini più famosi del mondo, arriva a Siena la prima tappa del LEGO Tour 2016, un percorso che porterà migliaia di mattoncini LEGO in diverse città italiane. In collaborazione con il Comune di Siena, il 29 maggio dalle ore 11.00 alle 20.00, Piazza del Mercato sarà invasa dai mattoncini colorati.

L’area gioco sarà suddivisa in diverse sezioni: – Gioco Libero: l’essenza dell’esperienza LEGO è la possibilità di lasciarsi guidare dalla fantasia e dell’immaginazione all’insegna del divertimento senza limiti. L’area dedicata al gioco libero avrà tavoli colmi di mattoncini di ogni genere per le creazioni più fantasiose e due schermi con i cartoni animati di Friends e Nexo Knights. – Area NEXO KNIGHTS: Un’area dai tratti medievali dove i bambini più coraggiosi potranno affrontare avvincenti missioni per diventare dei veri cavalieri NEXO. I piccoli costruttori potranno apprendere da un maestro speciale le mosse e i motti dei Nexo Knights. Una volta apprese le mosse più importanti, i piccoli cavalieri dovranno rispondere alle domande del “Nexo Quiz”. Chi riuscirà ad aggiudicarsi lo scudo? Al termine delle due missioni, tutti i bambini riceveranno l’ambito diploma di cavaliere Nexo Knights.

Area DUPLO: un ampio spazio dedicato ai più piccoli sarà a disposizione di tutte le famiglie. Da una parte, i piccoli costruttori potranno liberare la loro fantasia grazie alle vasche Duplo piene di mattoncini di ogni colore. Dall’altra, potranno divertirsi con le tantissime immagini LEGO Duplo da colorare.

Area Friends: le piccole amiche avranno la possibilità di vivere in prima persona le avventure delle LEGO Friends: potranno diventare piccole star cantando e ballando al karaoke sulle note di “Diventiamo amiche”. Su uno schermo, scorrerà il testo della canzone e le bimbe potranno divertirsi con la coreografia delle amiche di Heartlake City. Alla fine di ogni spettacolo tutte le bambine riceveranno il diploma per aver ballato e cantato come una vera Friends e grazie all’area dedicata al gioco libero potranno dare spazio alla fantasia ideando infinite creazioni.
